…how can you not when you’re in Florence?!

I just got back from the Ferragamo headquarters, which is part museum and part store, andย is the only Ferragamo store that sells limited edition handmade shoes from the man himself.
The museumย itself was just OK. Interesting, but perhaps too long if you follow along with the audio tour guide. Parts of it were totally weird, which I absolutely love…

The best part was going to the special section of the store, where Gion personally showered me with all the handmade shoes that were specially made for Marilyn Monroe, Ava Gardner, and Sophia Loren. Unlike the other Ferragamos in the other section of the store and all the other stores in the world, these didn’t contain any of that cheap plastic-y material. (Can you tell I drank the Kool-Aid?) He promised these shoes (most of which are only 1 of 100 in the world) would make me light up any room. I don’t know why Gion thoughtย I could afford these shoes (was it the bangs that I wasn’t too fond of in America, but am totally digging in Italy? It’s certainly not this Old Navy coat I’m rockin’.), but his confidence in me made me think I couldย afford these shoes too. I quickly took out my currency converter calculator as I can’t do math in this state of ecstasy that I’m in. $600 (US dollars) for a pair of black leather pumps made for Marilyn. That’s pretty much a steal in Ferragamo terms so I stood there for about an eternity trying to decide until I told Gion I’d come back once I had a chance to think it through. He gave me his card and I skiddadled. Should I get a pair of pumps (#36 out of 100 in the world!)? Oh, if only these were the questions I’d be worried about everyday…
