NOLA: The First Brunch [SPOILER: It’s filling…]

It was a cloudy, then sunny, then drizzly, then back to a sunny, hot, humid day in New Orleans. The forecast for the remainder of the trip was reported to be consistently inconsistent, which is how every vacation should play out I suppose. Unplanned planning? Planning the unplanned? The city was quiet this Friday early afternoon and we knew the serenity would come to an end with a flash of a boob so we took in this version of the city’s aura for as long as we could.

Speaking of partial nudity, we came across some exposed, bald, barkless trees while strolling towards brunch.

“As the poet said, ‘only God can make a tree,’ probably because it’s so hard to figure out how to get the bark on.” – Woody Allen

After passing the line of disrobed trees, we finally made it to the noms, Cake Cafe & Bakery, a charming, family restaurant serving all the southern goodness you could possibly want as your first meal of the day.

For Evan, the Boudin and Eggs…

For me, the Biscuits and Gravy…

…and of course, iced coffee for the both of us.
